Week 8. Montante. Ch. 13. Putting it Altogether
Week 8. Montante. Ch. 13. Putting it all together.
“You have the power to choose to live your life in ways that
reflect a set of values and expectations and that carry consequences for
yourself and for the communities you live in.” Chapter 8 reflects how
everything about lifespan development is about us. Every theory that we have
read about or had strong opinions about cannot always explain all the aspect of
development, but they do give the ideas that give us our own opinions about
them and how we each view them in different viewpoints.
This course has helped me learn so much about the
development of a human life. From conception all the way to old age. It has
helped me notice more about everyone’s own personal development. We all do it
differently and have our own way of learning. Each chapter has had me open up
my mind more into each type of development we see and what we may not
understand about it. Public figures like the Dalai Lama have suggested that we
need to open our eyes to the ways in which we must act for the benefit of
others. We all have so much to contribute to and we are the stakeholders of our
outcome.
Right now I am in the early adulthood and related to
majority of each chapter because I do have a little one going through her own
development. Which to me is interesting to understand since I am the person
viewing it while also going through my own development as well.
I believe by noticing a person development it will help us
understand our society as a whole. By knowing information like this parents can
help better their children and the role they play as part of their life. As
they get older, they can see the changes they will go through and as they go
into early adulthood they can reflect how their development has impacted their
life and in what way. That is how I view it to be. However, we each still have
our own viewpoints on development. I know as a human, mother, and future
educator the role I play for some ones development.
As I look back to this course, I can say that it has change
my own understanding of development. I learn to look more deeply into it rather
than viewing the outside layer of it. I can apply some of the theories to my
life and my daughter’s life and see the changes it can have or not.
Aside from the readings, the videos also played a huge part
of learning about development. I felt that the readings were great to read
about the information, but viewing it through a video I felt helped our
learning as well. We each learn differently and with having access with those
videos as well did help me expand more to view the development opposed to
reading it.
